What is Kambo?

Incredibly challenging, potent, and empowering!

Sitting with this medicine is not easy. However, once your purge is complete and you’ve taken time to rest, you are left feeling clear, energized, and ready to do it all over again.

Kambo brings you out of your head, and into your body. It asks us to be fully conscious, fully engaged with the process of being uncomfortable, of facing our fears, our blocks, and our shadow patterns.

Also referred to as “Warrior Medicine”,

Kambo is a sacred, non-psychoactive jungle medicine harvested from the phyllomedusa bicolor (also known as giant waxy tree frog), that has been used by Amazonian tribes for thousands of years. It is a powerful, natural antibiotic that activates our body’s ability to heal itself. It helps draw out toxins from our organs and nervous system, and can even help reset our gut microbiome. It can strengthen the body, reduce inflammation and pain, and heal us on all levels (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual).

The Matsés tribe harvest the secretions by calling the frogs down from the trees with a song or frog call. They use a bamboo stick to gently scrape the secretions from their backs, then rub their feet to help them secrete more before sending them off into the jungle. Those frogs will not be harvested from again until they have completely replenished their protective layer.

Kambo is a purgative, and enters your body through your bloodstream. We create surface level burns, also referred to as “gates”, using either a traditional tamishi vine or Tibetan incense stick, and place the activated kambo over each one. You will begin feeling the effects almost immediately.

What can I expect?

Due to the incredible number of beneficial peptides, you will feel some very intense effects as soon as the secretion enters your bloodstream. These are all totally normal. Kambo is legal, and very safe when administered properly by a trained practitioner.

Effects include, but are not limited to:

  • Increased heart rate

  • Rise in body temperature

  • Constriction in the throat and/or swelling of the face

  • Buzzing, tingling sensations in your hands and head

  • Heart beat/pounding sensation in your head

As toxins are drawn out, the purge begins, and can last anywhere from 10-45 minutes. This can be a very intense process. Purging can look like vomiting, defecating (a bottom purge), shaking, and an unexpected release of emotions.

Kambo contains bioactive peptides, making it a very potent and healing medicine. Some of those peptides include:

  • Phyllomedusin, which regulates the function of dopamine, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters

  • Deltorphins and dermorphin, stronger than morphine by 39x and 18x, without the same level of respiratory depression, tolerance potential, and withdrawal symptoms

  • Dermaseptins, which are broad spectrum antimicrobials, effective against bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa

  • Dermaseptin B2 inhibits cancer cell growth by more than 90%

  • Phyllomedusin and phyllokinin are potent vasodilators, and increase the permeability of the blood-brain barrier

Physically, Kambo draws out toxins from the body and nervous system. It empowers and strengthens the immune system, removes impurities, clears the skin, regulates blood pressure, and can balance hormones. While it can increase fertility, it can also induce abortion if pregnant. It contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can help alleviate pain and discomfort throughout our being. Thanks to the plethora of peptides, Kambo can also restore the gut microbiome, killing off any harmful bacteria and parasites, while protecting the beneficial strains.

On a mental and spiritual level, Kambo allows us to heal through layers of deep rooted traumas. The Matsés use this medicine to clear Panema, which is a build up of negative energy that gathers in our bodies over time. Panema is blamed for bad luck, depression, laziness, irritation, etc., so clearing it is vital. Bringing us back into our bodies, Kambo keeps us grounded and realigns the chakras.
